I absolutely loved the first novel in this series and was decidedly eager to revisit the realm of the All Souls Trilogy. Shadow of Night transports supernatural couple Diana and Matthew back in time to Elizabethan London.
Diana is about to come face to face with vampire Matthew's shady past - enter royalty, pirates, playwrights and dragons. If winning over Matthew's mother was foremost in the first novel, here we meet his even scarier father, amongst other hungry vampires.
Will Diana master her witch powers? Will the loved up couple make their way back to the present? Will the mysterious text, Ashmole 782 make an appearance? Will time-walking alter the events of the present? Will Diana perfect the local elizabethan accent?
One thing is for certain. The third instalment of this trilogy can not come soon enough for me! The historical context in which the reader finds these intriguing protagonists is palpable, thanks, in no small way, to the historical expertise of its author.
I can only hope that Ms Harkness is glued to her desk unravelling the threads of the finale at an accelerated pace, as I long to see what transpires between its pages. 5 out of 5 magical moments.
